TIES Communications Reaches CMMC Level 1 on the Path to Level 2
At TIES Communications, we believe that cybersecurity isn’t a destination—it’s a continuous process of improvement. Today, we are proud to share a major milestone in our 2026 security roadmap: TIES Communications has officially completed our self-assessment for CMMC Level 1 Compliance.
🔍 What is CMMC and Why Does It Matter to You?
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a framework designed by the Department of Defense (DoD) to secure the defense supply chain. Its goal is to ensure that every company handling government information follows rigorous, verifiable “cyber hygiene” practices.
Even if you aren’t a defense contractor, CMMC matters because it represents the gold standard of data protection. By meeting these standards, TIES Communications is proving that we handle your business data with the same discipline required by the Pentagon.
🛡️ Phase 1: Foundational Security (Level 1)
For the past two months, Julie and Brian have worked tirelessly to audit our internal controls and verify that our systems meet the 17 basic safeguarding requirements of CMMC Level 1. This level focuses on foundational protections, such as:

Access Control: Limiting system access to authorized users.

Identification & Authentication: Verifying the identity of anyone accessing our network.

System Integrity: Protecting against malicious code and addressing vulnerabilities immediately.
🚀 What’s Next: The Push to Level 2
While we are proud of this achievement, we view it as the foundation, not the finish line. CMMC Level 1 is our baseline of trust, but we have already begun the work for our next big goal.
Within the next 3 to 6 months, TIES Communications is transitioning to CMMC Level 2 (Advanced). Level 2 will move us from “Basic Hygiene” to a more rigorous, documented cybersecurity program aligned with NIST SP 800-171. This will involve implementing 110 advanced security controls to protect more sensitive types of information.
